Hiab hire and haulage in Penryn

Penryn is several centuries older than Falmouth and considerably less obvious about it. The granite quarried around here went into buildings all over the world, and the town still has the layout of somewhere that grew up around a working quay.

For us it is two quite different places: the old town, which is tight, and Kernick, which is not.

Access

Kernick is easy, the old town is not

Kernick Industrial Estate sits on the high ground above the town and is among the easiest access anywhere in this corner of Cornwall — wide roads, room to set up, and plenty of the trade and manufacturing businesses we deliver to and collect from.

The old town below is the opposite. The main street is narrow and on a slope, the side streets off it are narrower still, and the buildings come right to the kerb. Anything going into the centre is worth looking at properly beforehand.

The boatyards along the creek sit somewhere in between: workable, but the layout and the tide mean the lorry often cannot stand where you would expect it to.

The work

Industrial estate work, boatyards and the campus

Kernick generates steady trade work — steel, fabricated sections, machinery moved between units, and containers used as storage.

The university campus on the edge of town brings its own pattern: most of what needs doing there has to be done in the summer, in a narrow window, which makes booking ahead worth the effort.

  • Deliveries and collections across Kernick Industrial Estate
  • Machinery moved between units and out to sites
  • Boatyard and creekside lifts
  • Containers for site and yard storage
  • Summer works on and around the campus

The lorry

What turns up in Penryn

One vehicle: a 30TM HMF hiab with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. It brings the load and lifts it into place, so there is no second machine to arrange and nobody waiting about at either end.

Questions

Common questions about Penryn

Do you cover Kernick Industrial Estate?
Regularly. It is one of the more straightforward places in the county to work, and we can usually be flexible on timing for collections there.
Can you get into the old part of Penryn?
Often, but it needs checking rather than assuming. Send a photograph of the street and where the load is going and we will tell you before the day whether it works.

We also cover

Some of these are over the county line, which makes no difference to us: we work both sides of the Tamar and there is no surcharge for crossing it. Each is labelled with the county it is actually in.
