A hiab is a lorry with its own crane on the back. It means one vehicle turns up, unloads itself, and places the load where you actually want it rather than leaving it at the kerb for somebody else to move.
Ours is a 30TM HMF crane with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. That combination handles most of what a builder, plant hire firm or fabricator needs moving in a day: over a wall, across a verge, into a yard with no forklift, or off a job where the access is tight.
The saving is rarely the hire rate. It is not having a crane, a driver and a telehandler all standing about waiting for each other.

Common questions
- What can the crane lift?
- It is a 30 tonne-metre crane with 10 metres of reach, so what it will lift depends on how far out it has to reach. Tell us the weight and roughly how far from the lorry it needs to go and we will tell you straight away whether it is a job for us.
- Do I need anybody on site?
- Usually somebody to say where it goes and to confirm access, but the lifting is ours. If the site is empty, tell us in advance and we will agree exactly where the load is being left.
- How much does hiab hire cost?
- It depends on the distance, the time on site and the lift itself. Ring or message with what is moving and where, and you will get a straight price rather than a day rate you have to guess at.
