Hiab hire and haulage in Camborne

Camborne built mining machinery that ended up on every continent, and something of that has stuck. There is still real engineering here, and the businesses doing it produce exactly the kind of loads that need lifting rather than sliding.

It runs into Pool and Redruth as one more or less continuous town, and we treat the three as a single working area.

Access

Good on the bypass, tighter in the middle

The A30 runs past the top of the town with junctions at either end, and the estates at Tolvaddon and Treswithian are quick to reach from both. That covers most of the commercial work.

Trelowarren Street and the centre are Victorian and narrow, with a one-way system that does not do a long wheelbase any favours. Domestic jobs in the terraced streets off the centre usually mean standing on the road and lifting over, because there is no realistic way of carrying anything in.

As at Redruth, there is a lot of former industrial ground here, and we will ask what is underneath before setting outriggers on anything that looks recently made up.

The work

Machinery, fabrication and site work

Fabricated steel, machine tools and industrial equipment are the regular loads. Moving a machine from one unit to another sounds simple and is often the most technical job of the week, because it has to come out of one door and into another with no room either side.

Beyond that it is the same mix as anywhere: containers, plant, building materials and the awkward one-offs.

  • Machinery moved between units and premises
  • Fabricated steel from local engineering firms
  • Plant delivered to sites around Pool and Tolvaddon
  • Containers into yards, farms and building plots
  • Domestic lifts over walls in the terraced streets

The lorry

What turns up in Camborne

One vehicle: a 30TM HMF hiab with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. It brings the load and lifts it into place, so there is no second machine to arrange and nobody waiting about at either end.

Questions

Common questions about Camborne

Can you move a machine out of a workshop unit?
Usually yes, and the crane is what makes it possible where a forklift cannot get an angle. Tell us the weight, the door width and what is around it, and we will work out whether it comes out in one piece.
Do you cover Pool and Tolvaddon as well?
Yes. Camborne, Pool and Redruth are effectively one area for us and we do not price them differently.

Tell us what is moving, roughly what it weighs, and how far it has to go from where a lorry can stand. That is usually enough for a straight answer.
