Hiab hire and haulage in Holsworthy

Holsworthy is a livestock market town in the middle of the farming country between Dartmoor and the north coast. There is no fast road to it and not much here that is not agricultural, and that makes it one of the more specialised places we work.

It is also the natural stopping point between Bude and Okehampton, which is how we usually come to be here.

Access

No quick way in, and the lanes are the job

The A3072 and A388 are the roads, and neither is fast. Holsworthy is a genuine detour from anywhere, so we plan work here rather than fitting it in at short notice.

The town is small and the centre is tight around the square, particularly on market days.

The farms are the real access question. This is deep lane country — high hedges, single track, passing places at intervals, and gateways designed for a tractor. The crane is what makes these jobs possible, because reversing a loaded lorry back down a lane is not a plan.

The work

Almost entirely agricultural

Machinery between holdings, containers for storage, feed bins, water tanks, and the general run of heavy awkward kit that a farm needs and that will not come off a flatbed without help.

There is also a steady amount of work around barn conversions in this area, which means steel and materials down the same lanes.

  • Farm machinery moved between holdings
  • Containers and storage onto farms and yards
  • Feed bins, water tanks and agricultural equipment
  • Steel and materials for barn conversions
  • Work combined with Bude or Okehampton runs

The lorry

What turns up in Holsworthy

One vehicle: a 30TM HMF hiab with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. It brings the load and lifts it into place, so there is no second machine to arrange and nobody waiting about at either end.

Questions

Common questions about Holsworthy

Will you come out this far?
Yes, though it is a planned trip rather than a same-day one. If you can be flexible on the date we can usually pair it with something in Bude or Okehampton and make the journey work better.
Can you get down a farm lane?
Usually, and where we cannot, the crane means we often do not need to — we can work from the nearest passing place or gateway. Tell us what the lane is like and we will plan around it.
