Hiab hire and haulage in Ivybridge

Ivybridge sits directly on the A38 between Plymouth and Exeter, where the River Erme comes down off Dartmoor. It grew up around a paper mill and has expanded a great deal since, which makes it a mix of old valley town and modern housing.

For us it is one of the more convenient stops in Devon: straight off the expressway, with the industrial estate at Lee Mill immediately alongside.

Access

Excellent on the main road, steep in the valley

The A38 junctions are good and Lee Mill is a proper industrial estate with room to work, which covers most of the commercial jobs.

The older part of the town, down in the Erme valley, is steep and narrow, and the residential streets climbing away from it are the usual story of parked cars and no turning room.

North of the town the lanes go up onto the southern edge of Dartmoor and narrow quickly, with the same soft-ground caution that applies anywhere on the moor.

The work

Trade estate work and new housing

Lee Mill generates steady trade movement — machinery between units, pallets and equipment that needs lifting rather than forking, and containers used for storage.

The housing growth around Ivybridge keeps steel, timber and materials moving into sites that are often built out on sloping ground with restricted access.

  • Deliveries and collections across Lee Mill industrial estate
  • Steel and timber into housing development sites
  • Containers onto plots, yards and compounds
  • Plant moved along the A38 between Plymouth and Exeter
  • Domestic lifts in the older valley streets

The lorry

What turns up in Ivybridge

One vehicle: a 30TM HMF hiab with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. It brings the load and lifts it into place, so there is no second machine to arrange and nobody waiting about at either end.

Questions

Common questions about Ivybridge

Do you cover Lee Mill?
Yes, regularly. It is directly off the A38 and among the easier places in Devon to get in and out of quickly.
Can you do a job here on the way to Exeter?
Often, because Ivybridge is on the road between our two busiest Devon areas. If your timing is flexible it is worth asking whether it can join an existing run.

We also cover

Some of these are over the county line, which makes no difference to us: we work both sides of the Tamar and there is no surcharge for crossing it. Each is labelled with the county it is actually in.
